Researchers, engineers, industry professionals, and practitioners are invited to submit abstracts for presentation at the 5th International Symposium on Hydrothermal Carbonization (HTC 2027).
The symposium will bring together the international community working on hydrothermal carbonization, hydrochar materials, and related thermochemical conversion technologies.
Accepted contributions will be presented as oral presentations or posters during the symposium.

Symposium Topics
Abstracts are invited on, but not limited to, the following topics:
Authors should select the topic that best matches their contribution during the submission process.
Abstract Submission
Abstracts must be submitted through the online symposium submission system.
Each submission must include:
- contact and affiliation details of the corresponding author;
- the complete author list, in the order in which the authors should appear in the symposium programme and Book of Abstracts;
- the role of each author in the submission;
- a short biography and profile photo of the corresponding and presenting authors;
- the title of the contribution;
- the preferred presentation format;
- the most relevant symposium topic;
- the abstract text;
- three to six keywords;
- one optional figure or graphical abstract and its caption.
The corresponding author must also be included in the complete author list.

Abstract Guidelines
Authors are kindly requested to follow these guidelines when preparing their abstract:
- Maximum length: 400 words
- Language: English
- Keywords: minimum 3, maximum 6
- Abstract should clearly state:
- objectives of the work
- methodology
- key results
- main conclusions
Authors may upload one optional figure or graphical abstract. If a figure is uploaded, a caption must also be provided.
References are not required and should be included only when essential.
A short biography of no more than 100 words and a recent profile photo must be provided for the corresponding and presenting authors.
Presentation Formats
Authors may indicate their preferred presentation format during submission:
Oral presentations
Selected contributions will be presented during thematic scientific sessions.
Poster presentations
Poster sessions will provide opportunities for interactive discussion and networking.
The Scientific Committee reserves the right to assign the final presentation format.
Review Process
All submitted abstracts will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee based on:
- scientific quality
- relevance to the symposium topics
- clarity of presentation
Authors will be notified of the outcome of the review process by 15 March 2027.
