During the Conference welcome reception, drinks and a light meal will be served. The welcome reception will take place at the University of Cagliari\u2019s Botanical Gardens<\/strong>, one of the city\u2019s main tourist attractions: they feature a wide variety of plants unparalleled in Sardinia, along with important Punic and Roman monuments. CAGLIARI OLD TOWN WALKING TOUR<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thursday 28th<\/sup> July<\/strong><\/p>\n

Professional tour guides (and PALA members) will take us uphill to Castello, or Cagliari Old Town<\/strong>. We will visit the Cathedral, the Citadel of Museums and the medieval towers, walk through narrow cobbled streets and get a view from above of the New Town and the Gulf of Angels.<\/p>\n

CONFERENCE DINNER<\/strong><\/p>\n

Saturday 30th<\/sup> July<\/strong><\/p>\n

(Not included in the Conference fee: \u20ac70)<\/em><\/p>\n

The Conference dinner will take place at the traditional Sardinian restaurant Sa Festa<\/strong> in the village of Maracalagonis (http:\/\/www.safesta.it\/en\/<\/a>). Sa Festa is in a typical house of the Campidano area with a beautiful garden and a cellar.<\/p>\n

The registration fee to the Conference dinner includes:<\/p>\n

– An aperitif in the garden, observing the preparation of the typically Sardinian pasta dishes we will eat later,<\/p>\n

– A four-course meal of your choice (fish, meat, vegetarian)<\/a><\/span>,<\/p>\n

– Unlimited alcoholic, non-alcoholic and after-dinner drinks and coffee,<\/p>\n

– Live Sardinian dancing and music played with traditional instruments,<\/p>\n

– Coach transportation from and to Cagliari city centre.<\/p>\n

CONFERENCE EXCURSION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sunday 31st<\/sup> July<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Conference excursion will be a day trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Su Nuraxi at Barumini<\/strong> (http:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/list\/833<\/a>; http:\/\/www.fondazionebarumini.it\/en<\/a>). We will visit the most extraordinary example of the ancient Sardinian defensive buildings known as \u2018nuraghi\u2019 \u2013 which find no parallel anywhere else in the world.<\/p>\n

We will also visit Casa Zapata<\/strong>, a 16th<\/sup>-century house built on the remains of a nuraghe, and Centro Giovanni Lilliu<\/strong>, hosting a permanent exhibition on Su Nuraxi along with temporary art and handicraft exhibitions (http:\/\/www.fondazionebarumini.it\/en<\/a>).<\/p>\n

We will have lunch at the traditional Sardinian restaurant Il Cavallino della Giara<\/strong> (http:\/\/www.ristorantecavallinodellagiara.com\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n

After visiting Barumini, on our way back to Cagliari, we will have a walk round the artistic village of San Sperate<\/strong> (http:\/\/www.sansperate.net\/<\/a>), famous for its mural paintings and open-air sculptures.<\/p>\n

Important information about our visit to Su Nuraxi<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since Su Nuraxi is an archaeological site, its surface is uneven and its stairs narrow: please wear comfortable closed shoes or sneakers (no high heels or flip-flops!).<\/p>\n
