As Lass (2004) has pointed out, a proper historical corpus should be characterized by maximal information preservation, no irreversible editorial intervention, and maximal flexibility. In order to accomplish Lass&#8217;s desiderata, the collection of metadata, which help situate the text in its context, and the preservation of philological annotation are of crucial importance for a correct interpretation of language data in historical texts (Curzan 2009, Vazquez and Marques Aguado 2012).<\/p>\n<p>The aim of this workshop is to reflect on the creation and annotation of historical corpora with a particular focus on the preservation of \u201ccontextual\u201d information.
